镁及镁合金具有较高化学活泼性。

镁合金自腐蚀电位较负,阴极反应主要以析氢去极化为主,具有碱化效应的腐蚀产物等,从热力学的角度来讲,镁和镁合金是极易被腐蚀的,这大大限制了其广泛的应用。

镁合金表面处理是提高其耐蚀性的有效途径之一。
