Abstract

The lateral stabilizer bar is the auxiliary component of the suspension system. It has the function of adjusting the roll angle when the vehicle is subjected to lateral acceleration. It can affect the stability of the whole vehicle and the operation of the driver. Based on the 2016 racing car of WUTE team of Wuhan University of Technology, the design of the transverse stabilizer bar of the 2017 car was carried out according to the experience of previous years, and the force analysis of the car was analyzed and checked. The application conditions and advantages and disadvantages of U shape and Z shape transverse stabilizing bars are put forward, and the design steps and train of thought of the lateral stabilizer bar are simplified. It provides some design guidelines for the design process of the formula suspension for the college students, and also provides some help and guidance for the design of the WUTE team racing car of Wuhan University of Technology in the future.

Chapter 1 Introduction

1.1The role of stabilizer bar

Suspension system is the one of the most important system in a car which can connect the car body with the ground or the tires together elastic. Its main action is to transfer the force and torque between the tires and the body, such as supporting forces, braking forces and driving forces. And ease the vehicle vibration from the uneven road, attenuation caused by the impact, ensure the occupant comfort, decreasing dynamic load of goods and the vehicle itself. A variety performance of a car is related to the suspension system. In order to meet these performances, it has to meet these requirements:

Firstly, suspension system have to ensure the good ride of the car, as for the car that carrying people, the acceleration that the driver and the passengers get in the car should not exceed the standard limit value.

Secondly, suspension system have to ensure the car be good handling and stability, on one hand, the four position parameters will not change too much when the wheels jump, on the other hand, reduce the dynamic load of wheel and the amount of wheel runout.

Thirdly, the amplitude of the car body and the wheel in the resonance zone is small and the vibration attenuation is fast.

Fourthly, ensure that the body is stable during braking, cornering and acceleration, reducing the pitching and tilting of the car body.
