摘 要

随着西方文化的涌入,我国高等教育越来越重视英语学习。但与此同时,随着中国特色社会主义进入新时代,中国文化也进入了注重品牌建设、注重效益、注重长远规划的“跨越式发展”阶段。最明显的措施就是大学英语四、六级考试的改革。改革的重点是考试形式和内容,增加了大量优秀的中国传统文化元素。由此可见,我国大学英语教育的重心正逐渐从以往的外国文化引进的形式转向大学生跨文化交际能力的培养。本研究旨在综合分析近十年大学英语四、六级试卷,探讨其改革背后与中国文化自信不可分割的联系。最后得出结论,在全球化背景下,中国必须增强文化软实力,实践文化自信,为中国在全球发展中的领导地位提供保护和支持。

Abstract

With the influx of western culture, China has paid unprecedented attention to the study in college high education of English. But simultaneously, after 40 years of reform and opening up, Chinese culture has entered a stage of "leapfrog development" in which establish Chinese brand, focuses on benefits are of the utmost. The most obvious measure is the reform of cet-4 and cet-6. The reform focuses on the examination form and content, adding a large number of excellent traditional Chinese cultural elements. This shows that the focus of college English education in China is gradually shifting from the former form of foreign culture introduction to the cultivation of college students' intercultural communication skills. The purpose of this study is to comprehensively analyze the cet-4 and cet-6 papers of the past ten years, and to explore the inseparable connection between its reform and Chinese cultural confidence. Finally, it comes to the conclusion that in the context of globalization, China must enhance its cultural soft power, practice its cultural self-confidence, and provide protection and support for China’s leadership in global development.

1 Introduction

1.1 The explicit presentation of cultural confidence

The report to the 19th national congress of the communist party of China (CPC) clearly points out that without a high degree of cultural confidence, no cultural prosperity, no firm cultural confidence, there will be no great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Culture is the essential foundation of a nation, the basic element of social morality, and it leads an effective way to a harmonious society. It plays a significant role of instructing social climate and inspiring community ideas. As a place to impart knowledge, colleges should be accountable for the great mission of vigorously promote Chinese culture, which is also a fire-new requirement for them in the new era. In order to enable college students in the new era to voluntarily take on the responsibility of inheriting history and spreading culture, we call on colleges to attach importance to the cultivation of college students' cultural confidence and present new understanding and development under new conditions and challenges.

1.2 Gradual reflection of cultural confidence in college English test band 4 and band 6

With the implementation of cet-4 and cet-6 throughout the country, a non-quantified index, the passing rate of these tests, are gradually attached great importance to by schools, students and employers. In recent years, the form and content of the cet-4 and cet-6 exams have ushered in successive changes. Apart from the changes in examination questions, the papers also contain a myriad of relationships between different languages and cultures. The purpose of this research is to analyze the changes of cet-4 and cet-6 in the recent ten years and the connection between the reform of cet-4 and college English teaching, taking Chinese cultural self-confidence as the starting point. Finally, in combination with the spread of Chinese culture, the enlightenment of these changes is discussed.

1.3 English ability in cultural prosperity

Nowadays, the role of culture in the competition of comprehensive national strength is more and more incontrovertible. To occupy the commanding heights of culture means to seize the initiative of national strength competition. Objectively and accurately assessing college students ’ability to use English is not the only purpose of the cet-4 and cet-6 exams. What’s more important is that students can take advantage of their English strength to achieve success. The improvement of English ability means the advancement of people's educational level. The more flourishing a nation's culture is, the more potency it has. Studying cet-4 and cet-6 test papers can grasp the interaction between different cultures more specifically. The most urgent task of our country at present is to adhere to the strategy of "going out of Chinese culture" and continuously improve the soft power of Chinese culture.

1.4 Research value at home and abroad

As the form of cet-4 and cet-6 is under construction, many domestic scholars pay incredibly serious attention to the relationship between college education and cultural confidence year by year. The most interesting thing is that they identified the increase of Chinese cultural elements in the test papers. Apart from that, they agree that China pays too much attention to the professionalism of foreign language teaching, neglecting the presentation of ideology in teaching, which lags behind its development in China. The rapid development of economic globalization has exposed China to a variety of Western cultures and has had a profound impact on Chinese college students. This has also become a barrier to inculcate our country's gorgeous traditional culture.

According to the recent development trend of our country, the cultural content in the cet-4 and cet-6 papers is closely related to China's unique cultural perspective. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of these examination papers is conducive to enhancing self-confidence in the socialist culture with Chinese characteristics.

2 Literature Review

This part is intended to introduce the self-confidence adequately. At the beginning, it introduced its definition and listed the importance of Chinese culture. Then it expounds the importance of culture as part of college English teaching. In addition, there are paragraphs related to global cultural output. In the last part of the literature review, comes out the shift of focus on promoting Chinese culture abroad, including President Xi Jinping’s speech on Chinese culture and other ways.

2.1 The definition of cultural confidence and the importance of Chinese traditional culture

2.1.1 Cultural confidence in the literal meaning of Chinese

In Chinese, cultural confidence can literally be divided into two words which are culture(文化) and confidence(自信). Scholars have always been quite controversial about the concept of culture, but the only universal perception is that it covers all human spiritual activities and their derivatives.

Interestingly, culture also can be divided into “文” and “化” in Chinese. “文” means record, express and comment. “化” means analyze, understand and tolerate. As a country with a 5,000-year-old civilization, Chinese culture is all-embracing.

Confidence is originally described as a natural state of mind in social adaptation, but when the concept is elevated to the cultural level, it means powerful. Broadly speaking, confidence itself has a kind of positivity. Positivity without confidence is weak, incomplete, impotent and inefficient. Identically, confidence without positivity is blind, arrogant, invidious and dangerous.

2.1.2 The deep meaning of cultural self-confidence
