As a generalprinciple in translating activity, the classification of translation strategiesshall be connected with the participators closely. Translator's different translation strategiescan be divided into two categories, foreignizing strategy and domesticatingstrategy. If a translator stands with his or her reader, domestication shall beapplied, otherwise foreignization is put into use. The paperfocuses on the translation strategies of two Chinese versions of William SomersetMaugham's the Moon and Sixpence, the two translators are Fu Weici and XuChungang. Among the various Chinese version of this book, Fu's and Xu's versions are typical of their translation strategies. Their worksstrategies are opposite. Thus,this paper will give a comparison and an analysis of the two versions on theaspect of linguistics,culture, semantic understanding and their language styles to explain howdifferent strategies are compiled inthe two translators' works as well as the readers' acceptability. The paperwill also give a reliable reference for readers to choose a proper version tohelp them finish the book. The paper would findthat many readers could hardly finish the book, one reason of which might bethat they have read the improper one.
