Hilary andJackieand Black Swanwere two filmswhich won the Oscar in 1999 and in 2010 respectively . Anand Tucker and Darren Aronofsky both won the worldwide fame fordirecting these two films .The two heroines in the films both were occupied inartistic fields :Jackie is a cellist while Nina is a ballet dancer. To earn thefame in the artistic field ,women always pay much more efforts than men forthat men still dominate the this artistic field. Not only they need to competewith other competitors around ,but also they have to struggle themselves toseek for the perfectness almost to a crazy extent .The differences between thetwo women also call our minds. Jackie is a woman of sensitivity of fragilitywhile she appears to be enthusiastic ;Nina is vice versa. Nevertheless, thesetwo heroines who share different personalities have one thing in common i.e.the pursuit for the artistic careers. That’s why the thesis choose these twotypical characters .The comparison of the similarities and the differences inthese two novels reveal the awakening of female consciousness and theformidable set-up female authority. This thesis discusses the female charactersin several aspects and takes examples to illuminate the cultural value and agesignificance of feminist criticism.
