1. 研究目的与意义（文献综述）

with the rapid development of information technology and increasingly frequent international communication, english news is playing a more and more important role in bridging the world and exchanging information. the english news in various publications such as newspapers, magazines and journals has become an effective way for readers as well as researchers to acquire different messages involving different countries.

when analyzing news reports, people pay special attention to reported speeches. there are a great amount of reported speech in the news text with the aim of enhancing its impartiality, objectivity and accuracy, but some reporters unconsciously convey their views to influence the readers. to better understand the english news, promote the appreciation of news, and develop a correct attitude towards news, the research on reported speeches about english news of the times is of necessity.

the english news as a frequently used and very practical approach to know global events has long draw the attention of researchers. as a complex subject, the english news has been studied from different perspectives, with abundant achievements and still a lot of work to be done in future studies.

2. 研究的基本内容与方案

main content: a reported speech accounting for a major part of a news report is subject to the news sources, reporting modes and reporting verbs. through manipulating them, the reporter can secretly convey his views, and hence influence the reader's judgment on the reported event. the paper gives a critical analysis of english news related to china from the perspective of the news sources, reporting modes, and the reporting verbs. it is composed of four chapters.

chapter 1: the introduction of reported speech and critical discourse analysis

before our study, we should have a basic understanding to the topic and the theories and methodologies adopted in the study on english news discourses. the definition and classification of reported speech will be dealt with. the theories of critical discourse analysis and concepts like ideology and power are also introduced in this chapter.

january 11, 2018 -- march 17, 2018 write the thesis proposal.

march 18, 2018 -- april 10, 2018 collect data, and form a writing outline.
