thispaper mainly focuses on the contrastive study of body language within chinese and american culturalbackground. comparative analysis of material is mainly based on the films pushing hands and the banquet directed by ang lee. this paper first introduces thecommunicative mode of nonverbal behavior and meaning of body language incross-cultural communication. then, based on the content of these films, thispaper makes a comparative analysis on the five aspects of body language: eyelanguage, gesture language, facial expression, spatial distance and bodyposture. finally, this paper arrives at the conclusion that the analysis ofang lee's two movies indicates that the differences between american andchinese culture can be reflected in distinctive modes of communication.
