this paper is dedicated to analyze differences of privacy in the chinese and american cultures. by analyzing the differences of privacy between china and the america, readers and foreign language learners can improve their ability to carry out communication among cultures in order to avoid the contradictions and conflicts in intercultural communication.

with the rapid development of globalization, the intercultural communication becomes more frequent in an amazing speed. as a universal phenomenon, privacy exists in every culture. different culture has different concepts of privacy and different ways to deal with it, which results in cultural crash and conflict unavoidably. therefore, this thesis is dedicated to demonstrate the differences on chinese and american privacy and the causes.
