in the context of economic globalization and cultural diversity, the exchanges between china and western countries continue to expand. dialogue in today's society on the table, whether it is for home political or commercial activity has become a fashion. table manners as cross-cultural communication is an important means of communication, plays an important role in the success of the cross-cultural communication or not. analyze the causes of the topics from the western dining etiquette difference to proceed, the historical origins of the western table manners, and western table manners differences and their similarities and difference, to learn more about western cultural differences, so that we can better in western cultures, promote and western cross-cultural communication activities.

Analyze the causes of the topics from the Western dining etiquette difference to proceed, the historical origins of the Western table manners, and Western table manners differences and their similarities and difference, to learn more about Western cultural differences, so that we can better in Western cultures, promote and Western cross-cultural communication activities.

2. Research Methods
Major research methods will include document research, contrast, and combination of theoretical research and text study.
1). Document Research.
A document research is the process of reading, analyzing, evaluating, and summarizing scholarly materials about a specific work. The author of the thesis has looked up in many libraries some background information. In the meantime, the academic database and online materials are used as the references of the study.
2) Contrast.
It refers to the logical method of comparing two things in order to show their similarities and differences, which is a major strategy in text analysis. The thesis will make a lot of comparisons and contrasts in the literature review so as to highlight the initiation and distinctiveness of the present study. In the main body of the thesis, contrast will be widely made in the analysis of similarities and subversions of the texts.
3). Combination of theoretical research and text study.
It is one of the major research methods employed in the main body of the thesis. That is, the present study will analyze detailed similarities and subversions of Shaw#8217;s Pygmalion under the theoretical framework of External Intertextuality and Contratextuality.
