Besides, the background of the temporal society will also be discussed. The merits and development of humanitarianism should be further studied by modern society.

This paper will study on spirit of humanitarianism in ” A Tale of Two Cities” on the basis of previous studies systematically and dialectically. The study will focus on three main aspects: Charles Dickens and his humanitarianism idea, the humanitarianism that characters reflects in ” A Tale of Two Cities” and the multiplicity of humanitarianism that Dickens pursues. With the advancement and development of social economy, we should have an dialectical view on humanitarianism. Rereading ”A Tale of Two Cities” reminds us that humanitarianism can be promoted as well in modern society and help us realize the essence of humanitarianism and better see the trend of the times.
