Purpose and Significance of the Study
As the trend of globalization is becoming more and more obvious, our country#8217;s economy is booming and our culture has large effects on other countries. More and more people are learning Chinese and the ”eastern elements” are popular among the world. However, on the opposite, the western holidays are very hot in China while many Chinese traditional festivals have been forgotten. It is not a good phenomenon which needs us to raise attention.
Just in our daily life, we can see many examples. For instances, many men spend a lot of money buying flowers for their girlfriends or wives on Valentine#8217;s Day. And we know that many people will give friends and classmates presents at Christmas. What is astonishing is that a simple apple, which cost about 2 yuan at ordinary times, will cost 20 yuan after serious of packaging on that specific day. Now we know how much importance we have attached on the western holidays, what about ours? Can we hear our festivals except a three-day break?
If we continue celebrating other countries#8217; holidays while ignore our own festivals, it is difficult for the next generations to inherit the traditional culture, since what they touched the most is western holidays. It will also affect the Chinese cultural construction.
This paper aims to analyze the reasons for this phenomenon from two aspects: the inland aspect and the abroad aspect and raise people#8217;s attention. After that, I will find an appropriate way to treat the western holidays. So that we can give full play to the advantages of the western holidays to make our festivals more abundant
