从归化和异化的角度评析电影《大圣归来》的英文翻译

Literature interview

As is known to us all, there exist too many differences in culture between China and western countries. Thus, when we do the Chinese to English translation, we#8217;d better choose a appropriate way, domestication translation or foreignization translation. However, which is better? Can it be good to both native speakers and foreign readers?

Domestication and Foreignization was put forward by Lawrence Venuti, a famous American translation theorist, in 1995 in The Translator#8217;s Invisibility. These two theories can also be regarded as extensions of literal translation and free translation. He points that the translators should make the translation as fluent as the writers. Domestication has its own limitations. Venuti believes that "if the weak language text is naturalized in translation into a strong culture, then the foreign elements contained in the weak text will be obliterated.
