literature review
new english curriculum for chinese primary schools emphasized that students reading should proceed in an orderly way , so it sets up different reading goals for students in different grades and puts forward accordingly reading skills which should be obtained.although the language knowledge of the textbook is systematic and clear, there are some limitations on the design of contents. it is impossible to achieve the above goals by relying solely on english teaching materials. picture book, with its colorful pictures,brief words and sentences, and prominent theme ,is a suitable material for primary students to enlarge their reading quantity. therefore, how to take advantage of the picture books to improve the reading capacity of primary students is of great importance. the textbook and picture books are complementary in english teaching.

methodology
the research is aimed to solve the following questions: 1.what#8217;s the picture book? 2. what is the relationship between textbook and picture book? 3.how to choose picture book in english class ? 4.what achievements have been made in picture-book teaching? 5. what are the shortcomings in some teaching cases and how to improve them?
first, i use literature research method: collect,clarify, read and sort out a large number of paper , in order to understand what is picture book and the current situation of picture-book teaching in primary schools.
