1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)
in terms of the application of the verb-chunks in english writing, the educational researchers are trying to figure out the effectiveness of lexical approach on students’ writing competence. chunk teaching in recent years becomes a hard teaching and research. this paper aims to discuss the impact of lexical teaching approach for college english writing , allowing students to pay attention to vocabulary learning and students’ chunk awareness to help them overcome the difficulties encountered in writing, consequently improving their writing skills.
lexical phrases are both numerous and functionally important in written texts. as one of the most important units with the feature of both grammar and vocabulary in a language use, as the smallest unit of language input, memory, storage and output, lexical chunks have a very broad application prospect in teaching college english writing. lexical chunks is semi-refined language, which can be used as a whole stored in the memory, and can be extracted directly in use. studies showed that lexical chunks can efficiently improve processing efficiency of the language resource information, alleviate learners’ timed writing pressure and overcome the influence of negative transfer of native language, so as to improve the students’ writing fluency, accuracy and vitality. as an efficient way for acquiring words and expressions, teaching by using lexical chunks enjoys its own advantages in improving english writing and will help promote reform and development of english teaching for writing. researches conducted among non-english majors have revealed that students’ chunk size and writing competence are noticeably increased by lexical approach.
in spite of the benefits lexical approach brings, l2 learners often find their use problematic, typically overusing a limited number of well-known phrases, while at the same time lacking a diverse enough phrasal repertoire to employ lexical phrases in a native-like manner.the order of the types of lexical bundles in their l2 writings in terms of occurrence is verb bundle, noun bundle, prepositional bundle, adjective bundle, clause bundle, conjunctive bundle and adverb bundle, which is similar to that of the types of lexical bundles used by native speakers of english. it also reveals no evidence for excessive use of lexical bundles in l2 writings, but a shocking lack of variety and prevalence with respect to the lexical bundles used. it is inferred that text type, writing text and context identity of the writer and features of lexical bundles may be some factors affecting the lexical bundle use in l2 writing (许先文2010) data displays that the output rates of one third of the 191 target bundles in l2 timed essays either exceed or are similar to their occurrence rates in the english expository writings. bundles with past-tense verbs, np pp bundles and bundles with appositive clause or attributive chunks have very low output in the l2 timed essays(马广惠2009).
