agatha christie, honored as “the queen of crime”, has created a large number of masterpieces. and then there were none is one of her best-known detective stories and described by her as the most difficult of her books to write, she created two models of detective fiction, one is the snowstorm villa model and the other is murder with rhymes. detective stories usually draw less academic attention for it is commonly regarded as one element of popular culture. nevertheless, as one of the most prestigious detective story writers in the 20^th century, agatha’s works has been studied from different kinds of aspects by many people at home and abroad.

for instance, on implement of multi-theme in and then there were none, written by huang wei(2011), focused on the multi-thematic features of this novel. he analyzed the novel’s characterization, points of view and combined genres. a study on agatha christie’s justice theory, written by ye huiyuan(2009), researched on humanity and justice issues of some agatha’s detective books. he selected death on the nile, murder on the orient express and and then there were none for the study. not only does agatha christie write detective stories, but also think and study on justice and humanity.

as is acknowledged that the character analysis in literature works enables us to comprehend the works adequately and thoroughly. there are ten characters are lured into coming to an island under different pretexts in and then there were none, each character has his or hers characteristic features, and each character is charged with leading to other human beings’ death directly or indirectly, mr. justice is one of these characters, also, he is the murder who kills all the others. based on the studies of this book at home and abroad, the paper will focus on the analysis of mr. justice in and then there were none through his words, behaviors, plan, psychology and so on. the criteria of judging a person’s virtue and vice are so complicate and controversial that mr. justice’s behavior should be interpreted through an objective way.
