1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述)
alice walker, the first black woman who won a pulitzer prize in fiction, considered as one of the most influential writers in the literary world. her work the color purple is characterized with the unique and distinct epistolary form, the vivid image of women and touching story. this work receives extensive attention for having great value for research. this thesis aims to explore womanism from the perspective of bakhtin’s dialogue theory. the color purple reveals and subverts the racial and sexual discrimination. they have completed construction of subjectivity and the growth of ego and independence through the dialogue. what’s more, the communication between the groups has also aroused awareness of the subject. the heroine indomitable self-search not only breaks the segregation between man and man, man and society, but also shows the desire and pursuit to build a harmonious home.
there are many theses and works to appreciate and comment on the color purple at home and abroad. those are broadly separated into two categories: from the perspective of genre and from the point of content. consider that from genre perspective, xu shuxin analyses the characters’s speech in the color purple from the perspective of narratological stylistics(许姝馨, 2015). zhangying analyzes the novel the color purple from the perspective of literary stylistics(张颖,2010). from the content perspective, wang zhuoyu describes the symbolic significance of colors in the color purple (王卓珏,2007). liu zhihui narrates the black women oppressed by the three giant mountains-reinterpretation of the color purple (刘智慧,2011). yang hongquan describes an interpretation of the color purple based on bakhtin’s carnival theory (杨红全,2010). xiao hongbo analyses the body salvation and celie’s rite of new life in the color purple (孝红波,2016).
it describes a happy ending to embody that all the people, no matter what color they are and no matter what gender they are could survive harmoniously as a whole. this is a part of alice walker’s womanism. different from the traditional feminism, it is not to separate women from men but to advocates a situation that all the races could live together harmoniously.
