Thecontemporary age of globalization and cultural exchange has witnessed the widedissemination of news reports as well as the journalistic hot words in them.Translation, as the medium of conveying messages and transferring informationamong different languages, plays an indispensable role in both helping Chinesenews gain influence internationally and providing guidance for translationmajors. Therefore, it is vital to employ the appropriate translationstrategies, methods and techniques in translating journalistic hot words. Thispaper, from the perspective of the skopos theory, applies the case analysismethod primarily to investigate whether translators tend to foreignize ordomesticate journalistic words. The analysis is based on the second version ChinaDaily Journalistic Hot Words renewed in 2017, combined with latestjournalistic hot words in China Daily bilingual news website from 2017to 2018. First, the strategies employed in journalistic words translation areanalyzed. Then their translation methods and techniques are further analyzed.At last, journalistic words translations that employ different strategies arecompared and contrasted. As the result shows, the strategy of foreignization isused in journalistic words translation more frequently. It is concluded that toensure the adequacy of journalistic hot words translation and to remain theChinese characteristics implied, the translators may tend to adopt the strategyof foreignization and translation methods and techniques in accordance with thestrategy. This research is of significance since it provides not onlysuggestion for translators in practice but also guidance for students majoringin Translation as journalistic hot words translation is inevitable in almostall MTI entering examinations and their everyday learning.
