Nolan Christopher hasalways been an incredible director. In the OSCARS of 2018, he has beennominated for the best director. Both Chinese and American researchers haveresearched why Nolan can always amaze the viewer’s imagination and what Chinesefilms can learn from it. They profoundly have studied Nolan’s masterpieces—Interstellar,Dunkirk, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises…from characters, themes, structuresand so on. They have created a term for Nolan—Nolan’s film, for which theythink Nolan has his own way to tell stories. Normally, we may conclude that thecore of a film is its character and its way instead of its narrationtechniques. However, as Nolan, it is his special way of telling stories thatcreates the soul of his films. Suspense, science fiction, time and space arelabels of his films.

The scholars from allover the world explored his films from many perspectives. The subtraction thatNolan utilizes to depict war in Dunkirk is researched. (吴燕语) How we can experience the war with empathy inthe movie of Dunkirk is studied in 2017.(王霞) The interpretation ofits culture and language narration of Interstellar is appreciated by WangDongmei.(王冬梅) Themes ofInterstellar is analyzed by HuangJing from different characters.(黄静).Previousresearches has vividly presented his obsession of time and space. They have notonly learnt semantic narrative, tone of the narrative and subtext narrative ofhis films but also its realistic writing and painting. In his film, love cancome across time and space and love never fails. Different people show lovedifferently. Even in science fiction as Interstellar, it makes no sense if lovedoesn’t exist. Also, Nolan has his own understanding of hero. The innovation partof my paper is it that it makes a comparison in Dunkirk and Interstellar andlook for similarities and differences in this two films to interpret Nolan’sway of expression. In these two films, love never fails. Nolan both showshumanity in these two films from different characters. Both films use non-linernarration. The atmosphere in Dunkirk is resounding sound effect while silent inInterstellar. Nolan shows his understanding of heros in Interstellar and hisunderstandings of failure in Dunkirk. One week at bay, one day on the boat andone hour in the air form three parallel space in Dunkirk and life in cosmos andlife on earth form two parallel in Interstellar, both of which intersect at onespecial moment.100 minutes form Dunkirk while 167 minutes form Interstellar…Allof these are worth my discovery. Why Nolanis, by almost any judgment criteria, a monumental figure in the landscape of contemporarycinema leaves us to discover.
