The feminist ideas of Woolf have been valued andfavored by many feminist critics. Particularly, the concept of Androgynyadvocated by Woolf has attracted widespread attention.
In recent years, the research onWoolf's androgyny concentrates on three works: A Room of One's Own, Orlando and To the Lighthouse. Since itspublication, Mrs. Dalloway hasattracted lots of school’s attention and investigation both at home and abroad. In the west, Mrs. Dalloway, as one ofWoolf’s most complex works, which is renowned for its thematic richness andstylistic experiments, has been studied from diversified perspective such associal criticism, psychoanalysis, modernist experiment and narrative styles. Some foreign scholars also have investigated and interpreted the experimentalwriting style of Mrs. Dalloway, suchas Stelmach Kathryn. In china, studies on Mrs.Dalloway touch upon various perspectives, including social criticism, psychology, narration and so on. And concerning feminist studies on Mrs. Dalloway, great achievements havebeen gained both at home and abroad. And in China, the feminist approach to study Mrs. Dalloway is also taken by scholars, for example, Hu Xinmei combines war and patriarchy in Mrs. Dalloway and studies the incurable trauma caused by the WWIfrom the perspective of females. To sum up, though Mrs. Dalloway has received the continuous attention of manyscholars on feminism embodied in it, there are relatively few papers focus onthe exploration and interpretation of the feminine consciousness based on theconcept of androgyny.

Before Woolfformally put forward the idea of androgyny in A Room of One's Own, Mrs.Dalloway, as one of Woolf's masterpieces, has preliminarily depicted herconcept of androgyny. Through analyzing specific characters and plots from theperspective of androgyny, this paper interprets the awakening and developmentof female consciousness in pursuit of female independence, male and femaleharmony under the patriarchal oppression embodied in Mrs. Dalloway.
And concerning the significance of thispaper, the term androgyny has a long history. It originates from Greekmythology and is reflected in many fields. It was Virginia Woolf who firstformally introduced this concept to the field of literary criticism. The theoryholds that the human brain has both male and female personalitycharacteristics, and androgyny is not only the ideal state of sexual relations, but also the best state of writing. It is novel that this paper focuses on theanalysis of the awakening and development of female consciousness from theperspective of androgyny. In terms of theoretical significance, this paper notonly puts forward a new angle to study and analyze the feminine consciousnessin Mrs. Dalloway, but also shows thepossibility of further exploring Woolf's concept of androgyny. In terms ofpractical significance, feminine consciousness analyzed from the perspective ofandrogyny in this paper coincides with the idea of advocating equality betweenmen and women in today's society. It emphasizes the social demand of improvingwomen's status and building a harmonious society between men and women, whichis thought-provoking.
