1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述包含参考文献)
numerous studies on lord of the flies have already been made by lots of scholars so far, among which some of them have studied the writing techniques of this novel as an allegory targeting at the society and human being or as a desert island fiction, and fewer as both.
first of all, some scholars have studied the writing techniques of this novel by its allegoric and symbolic features.
zhang bei put forward that ”allegoric novels focus on literal expression, the arrangement of structure and the expression of thoughts and feelings, rather than the descriptions of the events.” (69) she believed that allegory can better inspire readers#8217; imagination and the words used in an allegory should be intriguing and featured with phonetic effects. besides, she also mentioned that symbolism and metaphor were frequently adopted in this novel. she pointed out that not only the characters but also the plots in the story were all symbolic. here zhang bei took it as an allegory and mentioned the writing techniques of symbolism, metaphor and words with phonetic effects.
2. 研究的基本内容、问题解决措施及方案
to thoroughly and carefully study the writing techniques of william golding in his short novel lord of the flies, a copy of the original book is undoubtedly necessary in the first place. and because the writing techniques usually serve for showing the theme, the general understanding of the story is needed. so i firstly read the text by extensive reading, thus generally grasp the main theme. since my study is based on the original text, so i have to read a second time to take what i might need in my thesis. and this time, i read by intensive reading during which process i need to conclude the main plot chapter by chapter and figure out the logical relations between the chapters, in which way i can know the development of story more deeply.
and before my third reading, i will search for the comments and arguments from journeys and articles written by outstanding scholars, thus i can get a better understanding of the novel and try to modify and perfect my point of views. when i thoroughly read it for the third time, i will take simple notes of what i think might be relevant to my study and underline the relevant sentences which i may quoted as proofs according to my standpoints.
and finally the valuable advices and instructions from my supervisor are essential. with continuous discussions with her, i am able to constantly revise my thesis and get it done. so generally speaking, the thorough study of the original text, the study of the comments by outstanding scholars and the constant discussion with my supervisor all contribute to the completion of this thesis.
