Methods and Procedures of the Study

In the hope of figuring out what Persuasion tells about, the author has first of all read the Chinese version, and all the main characters#8217; names and their relationships with one another are clearly listed on notebook in both English and Chinese. During the reading process, the author has made detailed notes and written summary of each chapter. After reading, the author has concluded the characteristic traits of the main character, which play an important role in grasping an overall understanding of the novel. In order to master the original flavor, the author chooses to read the original book. Only in this way can she not only get familiar with the plots but also absorb the elite of the original book.

The thesis consists of three parts. The first part will primarily provide the background information, including a general introduction of Jane Austen (her personal experiences, literary career, reputation and masterpieces), the novel Persuasion (reception and summary), literature reviews and the purpose of the study. The second part is the focus of the thesis. In this part, the study will firstly give a definition of feminism, and then broaden the definition in dictionary so as to keep pace with the development. Subsequently, a detailed analysis showing what Annie#8217;s merits, demerits and progress. Next, the study will further explore the roles which feminism plays in the union between Annie and Wentworth.
