1. 研究目的与意义(文献综述包含参考文献)
Agatha Christie is one of the representatives of classic detective story who is very productive and wins a nickname of ”detective queen”. Different to contemporary detective novels or criminal novels, classic detective stories put high emphasis on seriously detective progress and the overall background of the case, while contemporary detective stories focus on weird circumstances of a crime or thrilling process of detection. Detective novels derived from Europe and American, thrilled in Japan, and embrace potentials in China. Through the past years of exploring, Chinese detective works are gradually increasing in China along with the adaption of TV series and new-invited foreign novels. However the research concerning detective novels are short in China for its light literature type. Below are existing papers about detective novels from home and abroad which vary greatly in depth and quantity. 2.1 Within China Chinese detective fans of Agatha Christie are not limit, it reaps a pile of readers since the introduction of her work, but the related researches are few for its light literature type which receives little attention from scholars and the critics. Although the research history of Agatha Christie is short and obvious, scholars in recent years are putting efforts to implement researches of Agatha Christie and her wonderful works, which brings us enough material to attain basic information and provides us the foundation for further analysis. Most material are published on editorials and magazines which are short and easy to understand. Some scholars cling to start from different perspectives in order to complete the system. Some of them tend to start from the point of feminism, such as Han Xiu#8217;s Agatha Christie#8217;s controversial feminism-taking Endless Night as an example(2014), it further illustrates Agatha Christie#8217;s prospective towards woman during her work of later periods. On the one hand, it suggests the rising of feminine awareness, one the other hand, the male still take the leading control of language which depressed woman in some extent. It is a leap on her advanced sense towards female, but it still has trouble in imploring feminine image#8217;s work on narration function in detective novels, which means it desperately tell the feminism instead of narration using as a manifestation of feminine. Some of them tend to begin from the point of attractive elements, such as He Cuiyu#8217;s Analysis of the Attractive Elements of Agatha Christie#8217;s Novels--taking The Visitor as an Example(2017), it gives muti-prospective analysis of Agatha Christie#8217;s The Visitor, but the ascendancy it gives take the whole passage but lack of detail and further description, it only gives the evident vantages of The Visitor but comparison with other authors#8217; same genera of works are missing which lacks persuasion. Some other scholar start from the narrative aspect, such as Zhao Yue#8217;s Narrative Research on The Murder of Roger Ackroyd(2018), it starts from 3 aspects including narrative bearings, narrative time and progressive narration to explain The Murder of Roger#8217;s narrative style, the search is very extensive but every aspect covers a bit of it, not comprehensive. The basic angles are disclosed but if more details are displayed as well, it is inevitably a more valuable thesis. And Li XiaoFei#8217;s dissertation ”A Study of Narration in Agatha Christie#8217;s Detective Stories”(2010) , it wields many examples from different stories of Agatha Christie to interpret narratology theory and the parts which are cognitive construction and speech layers. But, to some degree, these researches put emphasis on narratology theory and narrative techniques but weaken the explanation towards the examples in the stories which suggesting more explicit sentences are used to promote readers understanding is more plausible. Many graduate students applied narratology perspective to analyze Agatha Christie#8217;s works, therefore, the depth and academic value is contentious, their researches make a precursor for us to follow even to chase after. 2.1.2 From abroad Due to the foregoing flourishing of detective novels abroad, especially in America and Europe. Different research perspectives about Agatha Christie are formulated quite well in foreign countries. Each field has its representative scholars Since 1970s, a great many of universities started the course ”detective fiction” which mainly related to the history of detective fiction, creative skills and criticism on detective fiction. Similar to the situations in China, although some scholars make researches from narratology perspective, few foreign books started from this angle to study Agatha Christie#8217;s story. Such perspective likes I.I. Revzin: Note on the Semiotic Analysis of Detective Novels:With Examples from the Novel of Agatha Christie (New Literary History, University of Virginia, 1978), analyzes Christie#8217;s novel from the prospect of structuralism semiotics(结构符号学). This paper intents to build a unified frame for Christie#8217;s novels. And Agatha Christie: Investgating Feminity by Meria Makinen (Houndiwill, Palgrave Macmillan, 2006) talks over the possibility of female innovating crime fiction and how do female write detective fiction of female#8217;s style under the dominance of male voice in her Paper Murder by the Book. Even though Agatha Christie#8217;s works attracted millions of readers, the professional thesis from the aspect of narrative techniques are not enough, for the studies abroad are more inclined to attribute the origin of her works to the life experiences that Agatha Christie had gone through. Agatha Christie is a romantic woman who is detail-mined , puts love and family in the first place. She views creating detective novels as a life-long career, therefore leaving us a lot of literature treasure to be explored. This article will start from the overall model of Christie#8217;s fiction, which entails the succession and breakthrough of classical fictions, analyse the integrated framework of novels from a horizontal dimension. Reveal the glamour of Christie#8217;s writing. Secondly, a vertical dimension of narration will be used to illustrate Christie#8217;s discourse formation. And the usage of narrative bearings, narrative time and progressive narration will also be applied to it which hold the dominance. Lastly, summarization of the overall narration patterns and reveal their practical meaning to detective novels.
2. 研究的基本内容、问题解决措施及方案
Firstly, I had to read the original novel written by Agatha Christie. In order to have a better understanding of the novel, I first read the Chinese version, to ave a general idea of the book. Then, I turned to the English version, trying to learn the detail narration of Agatha Christie#8217;s novels have put into. Intended to have a deep impression, I have searched online for adopted films and TV series because visualized works could give the audience direct and strong visual impact. I have found that the Agatha Christie#8217;s novels are highly productive in adaption into films, the film and television adaptions are up to more than 100 times, time span from the birth of her novel to the present. Among a large amout of her novels such as Roger Mystery, Death on The Nile, Murder on the Orient Express, Fatalism and so on are outstanding works were adapted into a different version of the film and television works. Alone the film and television adaptation of Then There Were None so far has more than 20. I chose the TV series to watch, getting a clear mind of the main plots of the novel, as well as a primary impression of the main characters. Secondly, I had to search on the net for previous studies. Finding related papers on website like CNKI, looking into school online library and E-library, I have collected quite more information about her books, which was helpful to my thesis writing. With the information I had, I started to figure out the thesis structure. As one of the most brilliant novelists in Britain, Agatha Christie was named as the ”Detective Queen”. Her works exactly innovate many new narration styles such as question-making, flashback... Finally, I came up with the primary outline of my paper. Since Agatha Christie was such a great detective novelist and her works had an impact on the next generations, so the first chapter of my thesis will be the introduction to the author, and her some destinguish works. The second chapter of my thesis will be the literature review. The analysis of narration style consists of the third chapter, and then follows the conclusion chapter.
