The remarks made by national dignitaries in international importantoccasions, such as conferences and visits, are important ways for a country tocontact and communicate with others. On this basis, the content of the speechoften contains the national interests and diplomatic attitude, it has clearpolitical stance, and a high demand for translation. Chinese politicians oftenuse idioms and allusions in speeches, which are the essence of Chinese languageand are highly rich in Chinese characteristics. How to translate them quickly, accurately and vividly, it’s a problem that must be solved.
With the rapid development of economy and the increasing internationalstatus, our foreign exchanges are more and more frequent. Recently, a largenumber of scholars have studied the idiom translation.Momin(莫敏,2013年) analyzed and summarizedthe difficulties in interpreting Chinese idioms in her article "Thedifficulties and countermeasures of Chinese idiom interpretation" .According to the Chinese-English interpretation of the leaders ' speech in APEC,Yang Dongqing (杨冬青,2015年) studied the idiom interpretation based on the theory of“interpretative approach“.Mao Ying(毛英,2014年) discussed the Chinese-style lexical translation methodfrom the point of view of the Skopos theory. Zhou Xiaogang(周晓刚,2015年) compared and analyzedthe English translation of Xi Jinping's inaugural speech, and putted forwardhis own views on idiom translation. The differences betweenEnglish and Chinese idioms are mainly embodied in the way of thinking, historical allusions, religious beliefs, customs and production transformation(李杨,2014). Idioms have unique Chinese characteristics, itformed with thousands of years of Chinese traditional culture(彭子系、胡俊等,2017). Chinese idioms are difficult to be translated intoEnglish because of their complex structure, rich connotations, distinctivecultural attitudes and characteristics (赵丹丹 2009), it has beenrecognized as a hard nut (张福清, 2016). In the process oftranslating, if the image can’t be accepted by thereaders of the target language, the literal translation will opposite to the custom and aesthetic standard ofthe original. But if completelydiscards the original image, it will lose certain rhetoric beauty. So in orderto make up for the loss which caused by failure to reproduce the originalimage, translators are required to change the original image (卢涤非, 2005) Therefore, the translation of idioms should focusnot only on the differences between English and Chinese languages, but also oncultural differences (黄频频,陈于全, 2010).In the research above, the translation of Chinese characteristic lexical translation, the difficultyof idiom translation and the translation strategies under different translationtheories have been discussed, but no further research has been done on idiomtranslation in the speech of national political leaders.
This paper firstly showsthe status of the idioms, which are used in the speeches of the nationaldignitaries. And then studies the difficulties、key points and common mistakes in the translation.Lastly, it concludes with the new effective translation strategy.{title}2. 研究的基本内容与方案
