1.目的及意义

EzraPound is one of the most important figures in the British and American literaryworld in the 20th century. He is not only a famous modern poet, but also afamous critic and translator. Although he has become a controversial poet inthe history of the United States in support of Mussolini and anti-Semitism, itis undeniable that the poetry he created and the imagist movement he directed hasadded a touch to Western literature in the 20th century. The American Imagist movementwhich advocates the precedent of modern British and American poetry, is one ofthe most important genres of American modernism literature. There is noexaggeration that to a large extent, the western modern poetics theory refersto Pound's poetic theory. The three principles of the imagism influenced thecreation of many modernist poets and opened the modernization process ofpoetry. As one of the leaders of the Imagist movement, Pound emphasized that inthe creation of poetry, poets should use images to show things clearly, accurately, and implicitly, and the feelings should be integrated into thepoetry.

The rapiddevelopment of the global economy and politics in the 20th century promotedintercultural communication. The reference of Eastern and Western poetics is noexception. Western classical poetics emphasizes rationality while Chineseclassical poetics emphasizes sensibility. Pound, as the representative ofWestern modern poets, has integrated the Eastern and Western poetic theories, notonly seeking inspiration from the Greek classical tradition, but also pushingthe boundary of poetry creation to more distant space. Therefore, a largenumber of praised poems were left for the treasure house of world literature. Duringthis period, he translated and published a large number of Chinese classicalpoetry, brought the Chinese poetry tradition into the Western modernistculture, and promoted the development of the American New Poetry Movement;moreover, the translation of Chinese poetry also benefited him a lot. Learnedand mastered the skills of Chinese poets in constructing artistic conception andapplied them to their poetry creation. He is convinced that Chinese poetry can"provide a character of great value and practicality for Americanpoetry." Therefore, a systematic analysis of the relationship betweenPound’s imagist poetry and Chinese culture, especially the influence of Chineseclassical poetry, is very beneficial for promoting the in-depth development ofPound's research.

A largenumber of scholars have ever conducted systematically research on Ezra Pound athome and abroad. For the foreign scholars, they put their attention mainly on Pound’sachievements on poetry and translation, and only a little people spent time inexploring the relationship between Pound and Chinese culture. In China, thescholars are always at the perspective of Pound to emphasize his Chinese culturecomplex while some scholars have studied the influence of Chinese culture onPound’s poem. And the author will probe into the influence of Chinese classicalpoetry on Pound’s imagist poem, through analyzing his poetry and exploring the classicalChinese elements on it.
