This paper mainly focuses on analyzing the gist of Ron Kovic’s autobiography, or rather memoir, Born on the Fourth of July, in a way of unearthing the ideology of the USA reflected by the memoir and its influence on the whole country before and during the Vietnam War, along with the impact and trauma on the country brought by a disillusionment, namely American’s defeat of the war. This paper aims to rethink profoundly about the war by studying literary works of which the topic is the Vietnam War.
