Thispaper mainly focuses on the news reports about the Trade War beginning in 2018 fromthe mainstream media of China and America. It will conduct the criticaldiscourse analysis based on the Fairclough’s “Three Dimensions of Discourse”with Halliday’s Systemic Functional Grammar theory to analyze their attitudes indifferent stages of the War. Through the comparative analysis, this study aimsto reveal the similarities and differences in lexical choice, text feature betweenChinese and American newspaper and their distinct hidden ideologies about theTrade War.
